Let’s be honest — booking a physio appointment for the first time can be a bit nerve-racking.
Will it be painful? Do I need to bring anything? Are they going to judge how tight my hamstrings are?
Whether you’re dealing with ongoing pain, recovering from an injury, or just want to move better, knowing what to expect makes the whole experience easier — and a lot more productive.
Here’s how it works when you book your first session with us for physio in Derby at ONE|DZ.
Before You Arrive: What to Know
When you book online or give us a ring, we’ll confirm your appointment and let you know what to bring and wear.
✅ Wear loose, comfy clothes – we’ll be assessing your movement
✅ Bring any medical notes or scan results (if you have them)
✅ Think about your goals – pain relief, returning to sport, lifting again, etc.
No GP referral needed. No paperwork nightmares. Just book and show up.
Step 1: Your Initial Assessment
This is where we get to know you — properly.
We’ll ask about:
- Where it hurts (and when it started)
- What makes it better or worse
- Your training, work, and activity levels
- Any past injuries or relevant history
Then we’ll run through a movement assessment, which may include:
- Postural checks
- Flexibility and strength tests
- Functional movement (like squatting, walking, or lifting)
- Neurological checks if you have nerve-related symptoms
It’s relaxed, conversational, and based around your goals.
Step 2: Diagnosis & Explanation
We don’t do vague answers or jargon.
Once we’ve assessed everything, we’ll explain:
- What’s causing the issue (and what’s not)
- Why it might have happened
- What to avoid or adjust
- How we’re going to fix it
This part is key. You’ll walk away understanding your body better than before — and with a plan you can actually follow.
Step 3: Hands-On Treatment (If Needed)
Depending on your issue, your first session may include:
- Soft tissue release
- Joint mobilisation
- Trigger point therapy
- Stretching or guided movement
- Taping or dry needling (if clinically necessary)
We adapt everything to your comfort level and what works best for your condition.
Step 4: Rehab & Home Plan
You’ll leave with a tailored plan — not a generic PDF.
This may include:
- Strength or mobility exercises
- Foam rolling or stretch routines
- Activity guidance
- Return-to-sport or gym programming
And yes, you can ask all the questions you want.
